Altoona out in semis

BELLEFONTE — Braden Hatch had two hits, including a double, and Brody Dull was the winning pitcher in relief as Altoona topped Centre County, 3-2, in the 14U Babe Ruth state tournament quarterfinals.

Brayden Pike and Jordan Goodson drove in runs for Altoona.

Later in the day, Altoona was eliminated from the tournament in the semifinals by Mifflin County, 10-8, after a six-run fifth inning by Mifflin.

Caleb Detrick had two hits and three RBIs for Altoona, and Garret Reese and Vincent Albarano also each had two hits.

Despite being eliminated, Altoona will play in the regionals as the host beginning July 17.

WILLIAMSPORT — Trailing 9-0, the Altoona 16U Babe Ruth team staged an eight-run fifth inning and then scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to edge Broomall-Newtown in the quarterfinals of the state tournament, but Altoona’s run came to an end later in the day with a 3-2 loss to Media in the semifinals.

Connor Waite drove in three runs, and Drake Talko and Spencer Davis each had two hits, including a double, in Altoona’s comeback win. Winning pitcher Eliott McCloskey drove in two runs and pitched four shutout innings in relief.

Adam Loucks had three of Altoona’s four hits in the loss to Media, which won the game despite getting only two hits.
