What is the most common answer in Wordle? ›

We see from Figure 1 that “e” is the letter that is most frequently used (1,233 times in total), followed by “a”, “r”, “o”, “t”, “l”, “i”, “s”, “n”, “c”. The most frequently used letter in the first position is “s”, while the most frequently used letter in the second or third position is “a”.

The New York Times confirmed Tuesday the solution for Wordle 325 featured two different words a day after players faced a similar scenario because of a "major recent news event."

Here comes the spoiler: Today's Wordle answer is BUGLE.

In its robot brain, a handful of words — SLATE, CRANE, TRACE — are best. For human Wordle players, the most popular opening word by some margin is ADIEU. AUDIO, another four-vowel word, is the fourth-most popular. The strategy seems to make sense: Figure out the vowels, and the other letters will fall into place.

For instance, researchers at MIT have published a paper that they say definitively confirms the best Word to start Wordle as… SALET. If you're not sure what SALET means then you're in good company, because I didn't either. Apparently it's a 15th-century helmet, but more importantly Wordle does accept it as a guess.

Memorizing all of the past Wordle answers is nearly impossible – after all, there have now been more than 1,100 of them. But knowing what's gone before is important, because Wordle answers don't repeat – so you could easily be wasting guesses.

3. More people solve Wordle on their first guess than can be explained by chance. In the list above, we excluded first guesses that were that day's Wordle solution. That's because, about one game in every 250, a reader gets the answer right on the first try.

The reason having all of the previous Wordle answers to hand is helpful is because if a word has been used once, it cannot be used as an answer again, so you can eliminate hundreds of potential answers.

I repeat, letters can be used twice! If you choose a word with repeating letters and only one letter is either green or yellow and the other is gray, it means the letter only appears once. However, if the second letter is yellow or green, then the letter appears twice in the answer.
